Shri. Venkatachala Mudaliar and his wife Subbhalakshmi Ammal were earnest devotees of Swami. Quite often Swami used to visit them, take food in their house and take to them in a jolly fashion. In the backyard of their house there were two Poovarasu (Portia) trees and two drumstic trees. It was a new moon day. Swami dropped in at about 4 in the evening, and said, “Subbalakshmi, come here, I will show you some fun.”

When she asked what he was going to show, Swami was looking into the sky through the open verandah and raised his hands calling out, “Come! Come! Immediately one crow came, then another crow flue in, then five, ten, hundred crows flew in; likewise a number of other species of birds like pigeons, parrots, various types of sparrows, all flew in. They all crowded the whole place including the neighbouring house, sitting on the ground, on the roof, on the trees etc; and started making noise and jumping here and there and playing. Swami was in the midst of the birds and played with them. Subbhalakshmi was watching the fun with curiosity. Then Swami took a strand from his shoulder cloth and blew it. Immediately all the birds departed.

“I am going to show you Lord Narayana, Parvathi-Parameshwara, Brahma, Indra, and Swargaloka.”

The next night Swami woke up the Mudaliar’s wife at about 11 at night. She opened the door and let Swami in. She treated Swami as her family deity. She spoke to Him with great respect and stood by His side with humility. She always used to ask him queries relating to devotional or spiritual matters. That night she had some similar questions.

Swami said, “I am going to show you Lord Narayana, Parvathi-Parameshwara, Brahma, Indra, and Swargaloka.” Swami put HIS right hand on her forehead and told her to look up. When she did so, she could hear divine music with blowing of conches, ringing of bells etc., the like of which she had not heard anytime. Next morning she saw beautiful globes with illumination, exquisite jewellery and an indescribable light which was descending. In the middle of that halo, was a handsome person (Indra) sitting on a white elephant. On seeing that sight she was overwhelmed and swooned. Swami was announcing, “Look here, there is Indra, there is Rudhra, there is Parvathi, there is Vishnu; describing individually the deities. He removed his hand, when she swooned.

Because of the divine vision Subbalakshmi lost her eye-sight! Swami patted her on her back and said, “You are not fortunate enough! Your previous karma is not wiped out. That is a big hurdle. Sleep well” and He departed.

Because of the Divine vision, and having lost her vision, she was could not sleep.

Fumbling her way in the morning crying loudly and bemoaning her loss, she was waiting for the Swami. When he visited her next morning, he asked her why she was weeping. She said, “See what you have done! I have lost my eye sight.” With his shoulder cloth, Swami wiped her eyes, and astonishingly, she regained her vision!
