“Swamigal wore the new clothes…”

Om Sathguru Sri Seshadri Swamigal Thirvadikkae

In the year 1909, Sri Sundaram Chettiar was the presiding Judge in Thiruvannamalai. He had a deep desire to see Swami and pay Him, his respects. Realizing this, Swami suddenly came to his house one day. The judge’s happiness (at seeing the God, who had condescended to partake of food in his house), knew no bounds! The Judge presented the Swami new clothes. Swami wore the new clothes, and laughing aloud folded His old cloth and put it on the Judge’s shoulder and suddenly left.

The Judge got promoted as the High Court Judge of Madras. The conferment of His blessings was not a big deal for Swamigal, since He was an ocean of divine power!

“So you are going to establish a Sangam…?”

Om Sathguru Sri Seshadri Swamigal Thirvadikkae

On another occasion, Sastriar had discussions with the late E.S. Ramaswamy Sastry on starting a society called Sri Ramana Samithi. On their way to Maharshi, they chanced to see Swamigal. Both paid obeisance to him. Immediately Swami told them, “So you are going to establish a sangam (society)! Go ahead.” Both were bowled over by Swamigal’s Gnana Drishti, that He knew about their proposal, which was mooted only half an hour before.

“It was said that by Swami’s grace Goddess Saraswathi herself had spoken …”

Om Sathguru Sri Seshadri Swamigal Thirvadikkae

Bhanukavi was a vidwan and an ardent devotee of Avathar Sri Seshadri Swamigal at who’s very thought, his heart would melt. If he met Swami in person he would forget himself. One day Bhanukavi had to deliver a lecture on “Yoga and Yogi” with Mahamahopadyaya Sri Dhandapani Dikshidar of Chidambaram presiding. The meeting was convened on the first floor of the Anna Chathram. Dikshidar made a remark, “It is one Bhanukavi who is to speak. Let us see his face as Bhanu means Surya.” At this introduction, Bhanukavi got unnerved. One could speak fluently was stuck with stage fright. He got up and was tongue-tied. The audience got restless and thought this was to be a fiasco. At that point Avathar Sri Seshadri Swamigal emerged from somewhere. The audience stood up. Bhanukavi fell at Swami’s feet and was in tears. Swami blessed him. He laughed and left the stage. That was all that happened and after that, wonder of wonders! – the ocean of Bhanukavi overflowed its banks!

Said he, “I am now going to speak in this Devasabha, under the championship of Brihaspathi”. He continued his speech for two hours delivering a virtual flood of nectarine words, which enthralled the audience!

It was said that by Swami’s grace, Goddess Saraswathi herself had delivered the speech for Bhanukavi! This was an instance wherein Swami shielded his devotees from being humiliated, just as Lord Krishna had shielded Draupadi in Mahabharat.

“Is the Rakshasan dead?”

Om Sathguru Sri Seshadri Swamigal Thirvadikkae

Swamigal used to visit Shri. T.S. Kuppuswamy Iyer’s house often. Swami also used to beat and abuse the womenfolk of the household in their own interest. But Kuppuswami did not like this and he used to criticize Swami. Swami considered his anger as ‘Rakshasan’ and whenever He met Iyer, Swami used to call him ‘Rakshasan!’

Later Swami came to his house and asked, if the ‘Rakshasan’ was dead! On hearing this, Iyer’s mother grew very sad and started to cry. Then, Swami said that the ‘Rakshasan’ had left and that Kuppuswami was alive.

Saying this over and over again, Swamigal was successful in wiping out the anger from Kuppuswami’s mind.
